Q & A

  1. What will Cure for Life Foundation do with the donations they receive?
The donations will be used to fund research into the causes of brain tumours, as well as trying to find better treatments for those living with brain tumours. Cure for Life currently funds eight research projects around Australia. An announcement regarding the establishment a brain tumour research Centre of Excellence in conjunction with the University of New South Wales will be made very soon.

  2. Will my donation be tax deductible?
Yes, all donations (funds) over $2 are tax deductible.

  3. How many staff do you have?
    2 full-time and 2 casuals.

  4. Do you have offices in other states (outside NSW)?
No, although if you’d like to register your details, we will contact you when we open an office in your state.

  5. How can I help?
There are many ways you can help! You can help by donating to our research fund, holding your own fundraiser or by volunteering to assist at one of our functions. If you’d like to volunteer, please send your contact details and what you would like to participate in to the office via email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or post (PO Box 894 Randwick NSW 2031).

  6. Can I receive more/regular information?
You can register for our mailing list (click here) and will then receive our newsletter and invitations to fundraisers and events.

  7. Can I donate on a regular basis or via workplace giving?
You can arrange this by contacting Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). CAF administer our workplace giving programme and can help you arrange a regular donation.

  8. How much was spent on creating your new TV ad?
This ad was created pro bono (free) by DDB advertising and the television stations have donated the air time.

  9. Why did you make this ad?
The ad was made to increase awareness about the incidence and effects of brain tumours on the community.

  10. What research is currently being funded?
See our webpage for the list of our latest funded research.
  11. I/friend/relative has/may have a brain tumour. Can you recommend a doctor/specialist?
Unfortunately we can’t recommend a doctor, but the best course of action is to contact your GP and discuss your options with them.

  12. Why is there a need for Cure for Life to raise money?
Cure for Life Foundation is trying to raise money for brain tumour research because we believe that research can make a significant difference to the outcomes for people who develop brain tumours. 20 years ago the survival rates for people with Leukaemia was very poor (around 15-20%) however, with a concentration of funding into leukaemia research,  the survival rates have dramatically improved to around 80%. This is the outcome we would like for brain tumour sufferers.

  13. Does Cure for Life receive funding from other sources (e.g. Government)?
Cure for Life Foundation does not currently receive funding from other sources, however, when we establish our research centre, we anticipate that the researchers will be applying for a variety of government grants.

  14. Where can I get more information on brain tumours?
More information on brain tumours is available on our website or on similar websites such as BTA (Brain Tumour Australia) , Cancer Council, or the American Brain Tumour Association. There are links to these and other organisations on our website.

  15. Who is behind the Foundation?
The Foundation is administered by a board of directors and 2 full-time office staff. The board includes the following people:
Chairman John Scott BSC, Michael Cherry, Joanne Quin, Dr Charles Teo, Mala Dixit, Trevor Danos, Scott Clemesha, Marcella Zemanek, Stephen Vineburg and Nicholas Kelly
