CURE - April 2006 - Volume 3, Issue 1

Love for Life

This year’s major Cure For Life Foundation™ fundraiser is only 4 weeks away now and almost everything is set to go. We’re back at the AJC for another great night of fun and fundraising. This year’s entertainment will feature the Hoodoo Gurus and our MC is former Perfect Match Host Greg Evans.
The “Love for Life” theme will feature strongly in the programme with lots of “luurve” elements including Love Song Dedications and a Perfect Match segment where guests can bid for a date with one of our celebrities. Even the first prize in the raffle of a 10 night trip for two onboard P & O Cruises’ Pacific Sun to the exotic palm-lined beaches of destinations including Divine Islands and Champagne Bay add to our theme!
We also have some amazing “experience style” auction items including: a day on the All Saints Set; the very popular dinner for 8 with Steve Waugh and Charlie Teo; an exclusive Mercedes Australian Fashion Week pass; and a day with renowned chef Guillaume Brahimi from Bennelong.
If you still haven’t reserved your seats and would like to come along, please don’t leave it until the last moment, because at the time of printing this newsletter, there were only 8 tables available.
Also, if you would cannot attend the ball, but would like to purchase tickets in the major raffle, please contact the Cure for Life office on 02 9697 0078.

New Fellowship Offers

To date, the Foundation has awarded almost $800,000 worth of grants and fellowships in our endeavours to find a cure and to improve the lives of those suffering from brain tumours.
The trustees are proud to announce that in July this year, another $100,000 will be awarded to researchers to further their work in the field of brain tumour research. Our Scientific Advisory Board has received several applications from research institutions around Australia and will be assessing these over the coming weeks, before making their final recommendation to the Trustees.
It is one of the Foundation’s major goals to become the most significant non-government provider of brain tumour research funding in Australia.

Fundraiser Report

Plant a Stem

Plant a Stem For a Cure was launched at the Aaron McMillan Grove for Medical Research dedication ceremony on Tuesday 29th November, 2005. The grove is located at Gap Range, Bowning (near Yass) on a property run by acclaimed international glass artist, Peter Crisp. Peter organised this event along with several locals and Landcare Australia in support of his friend Aaron McMillan and the Cure for Life Foundation.
NSW Governor Professor Marie Bashir, AC made the dedication, and was joined by local dignitaries in raising over $2,500 though guests purchasing tree stems on the day. Anyone wishing to purchase a tree stem in this Grove (at $55 each) can log onto the Cure for Life website (www.cureforlife.org.au) and download a form from the Fundraising Events page to fax to Crisp Galleries.
